My knife doesn’t turn on

Ensure your battery is charged: When you first receive the knife, note that the battery is only partially charged. To recharge, simply plug the battery into any USB-C power source. When the lights are flashing, the battery is charging, and when the lights turn off, the battery is ready to go.

Checking for battery power: Insert the battery pack into the knife. The lights on the battery pack will illuminate to indicate how fully the battery is charged, and you should hear a “charge up” sound from the knife.

Turning on the knife: The knife is only on when you are actively holding down the button. When the knife is on, the lights on the battery pack will illuminate. Note that you may not hear any sound or feel any vibration in the handle when the knife is running.

Feeling the ultrasonics: Unlike an ultrasonic toothbrush, you won’t feel any vibration in the handle of the knife. They’re also too small to see with the unaided eye. To experience the vibrations, gently and carefully pinch the sides of the blade behind the cutting edge. Run your fingers up and down while you turn the knife on and off. You’ll feel the friction disappear and reappear. I’s an unusual sensation we compare to an air hockey table.

My knife isn’t performing as I expected

It’s possible your knife has fallen out of tune. Although an internal auto-tune process continuously monitors and adjusts the knife’s frequency, a manual re-tuning can help improve performance.

We also periodically release updates that improve various aspects of the knife’s performance, and perhaps this will help with the issue you’re encountering. This process takes less than 3 minutes and all you need is your knife and a computer or phone with Bluetooth.

The battery lights show two red dots and I hear a descending tone. What does this mean?

This means that your battery is low. Simply remove the battery (it’s a snug fit, so you’ll need to pull with some force), and recharge the battery either via a usb-C or using the wireless charging tile. In practice, you’ll get several meals worth of prep on a single charge.

The battery lights all turned red and I hear a warning tone. What does this mean?

If you see the lights on the handle turn red and is accompanied by a few beeps, that’s the knife's overheat protection. If you hold down the button continuously for long enough, eventually the electronics will hit a temperature threshold and the system forces a short break in operation. During normal use, it's usually not a problem, as the intermittent on/off cycle of using the knife gives things enough time to cool down. You didn't do anything wrong; the electronics just needed a short breather.

My knife is emitting a loud, high pitch noise.

When food or water accumulate in just the right spots on the blade, it can cause the vibration mode to jump from a longitudinal motion into a torsional motion. This makes the knife move in an unintended way that causes some audible noise. The fix is to release the button and wipe the blade, and the noise should subside. If the noise continues even when the knife is dry, you may need to retune the knife.
